The Beyond Borders project opens a new phase of research by involving the Associations of Emilia-Romagnoli in the world to investigate the theme of Geographical Borders and the concept of migration under new and interesting points of view.
The project aims to “cross the borders” of Emilia-Romagna, to explore the theme of migration through the real stories of those who have made this journey, involving the users of the associations of the Emiliano Romagnoli nel mondo in the process of artistic elaboration of the video content that will become part of the Instabili Vaganti show and the documentary video clips made during the stages of work abroad.
The stories will be collected through interviews, carried out with the help of online platforms but also and especially in the research and exchange stages abroad, which will also include practical workshops in theater, dramatization and story telling, with the users of the associations abroad but also with local students and artistic presentations, carried out in collaboration with the project partner associations and with Theaters and Universities , in order to spread Italian culture and language and especially the artistic excellence of Emilia-Romagna in the world.
Beyond Borders in fact wants to develop an investigation on the concept of borders, not only geographical but also cultural, social, interpersonal and especially on the concept of crossing the border, as a trigger of the process of migration but also and above all of the encounter with the other, highlighting the process of contamination that is generated with the cultural contribution of migrant peoples in other countries.
The main theme of the project is the very concept of “itinerancy,” dear to the “Instabili Vaganti” company, which has made wandering its main characteristic, a kind of “contemporary migration” no longer from one place to another but in continuous displacement. In a world where borders seem to be closing again, the openness generated by those who have made their wandering a strong point is a necessary condition for the process of understanding diversity and the principle of acceptance.
In this sense, the comparison between the company’s artistic journey and the one made by the people of Emilia-Romagna abroad will be fundamental, a journey that is always a discovery that leads to contamination between different cultures, languages and traditions. In this regard, a dramatized reading of the book that collects the company’s travel experiences is planned at the host venues.
The main aim of the project is to involve Emilia-Romagna residents abroad, through theatrical activities capable of generating an original dramaturgy that will be generated from the multiple stories that will emerge from the interviews and to make them participants in the creation process that will see their presence on video both in the produced show but also and above all in the documentary and promotional clips.
In project also wants to give continuity to the activities undertaken in 2021-22 with the Contemporary and Traditional Project by realizing as much as possible this live confrontation and thus privileging the encounter and the journey as the very object of discovery and theme of artistic investigation.
The show will be the fruit of this research, it will involve actors from different countries and will be presented on September 26, 2023 at the Colpi di Scena Festival directed by Accademia Perduta Romagna Teatri in Forlì. It will then be broadcast in Italy and abroad. All the interviews conducted may also become part of the heritage of the Virtual Museum of Immigration.
