Tunisia-Italy: “Beyond Borders”, an artistic project that explores the boundaries of identity
Tunisi, set 11 12:30 – (Agenzia Nova) – The international project “Beyond Borders”, directed by the Italian theatre company Instabili Vaganti, will present its first studio open to the public in Tunis on September 13, 2024, at the Sala Bernard Turin of the Théâtre National Tunisien. This initiative, supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture as part of the “Boarding Pass Plus 2022-24” program, saw the collaboration between the Italian Cultural Institute of Tunis and the Theatre National Tunisien, marking an important step in Italian-Tunisian cultural co-production. From September 5th to the 8th 2024, an intensive workshop was held and it involved 12 Tunisian artists including actors, dancers and performers, led by Anna Dora Dorno, director and actress, and Nicola Pianzola, performer and playwright. Together with them there were their collaborators Camilla Paris and Mouayed El Ghazouani. The goal was to select the team that will participate in the co-production “Frontieres Tunisie”, which will debut in November 2024. The project explores the theme of “border”, inviting participants to reflect on and translate their cultural experiences and traditions on stage. The performers investigated their past and their roots to tell, through gestures, actions and songs, the limits they had to overcome and the new challenges that await them. This research path gave life to a performance that mixes rituals, tradition and creativity, tracing a “dance of distance” that symbolizes the overcoming of cultural and personal borders. The meeting between the different artistic expressions generated a profound dialogue between cultures, highlighting the importance of art as a means to understand and overcome borders, not only geographical, but also identity-related. The project will continue with further development steps until the official debut scheduled for November, strengthening the cultural bond between Tunisia and Italy. (Tut)
