AISE – SEPTEMBER 25TH 2025

Director and founder of Instabili Vaganti, Anna Dora Dorno, will receive an honor today at the Eazees International Women’s Theatre Festival in Cairo, an award given to celebrate her work as an internationally acclaimed interdisciplinary artist.
The award will be presented during the festival’s opening ceremony. Dorno will be honored alongside a group of distinguished artists from Egypt and around the world, including Lebanese researcher and activist Hanan Al-Hajj Ali and Egyptian actress Farida Fahmy.
Now in its third year, the festival will feature 16 plays from six different countries, as well as concerts, documentaries, training workshops, and symposia. The honor marks a further milestone in the career of Anna Dora Dorno, who founded the Instabili Vaganti company in 2004 with playwright and performer Nicola Pianzola.
Dorno is a leading figure in the field of experimental and research theater. Her hybrid creations combine performative action, vocal research, music, dance, and video art. Her works have been presented in over 20 countries, including iconic venues such as the Old Vic Theatre in London and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Carthage in Tunis.
Among her numerous accolades, she received a nomination for the Total Theatre Awards at the Edinburgh Festival in 2012 and several awards (best direction, performance, and set design) at the Saint Muse Academy Festival in Mongolia for her acclaimed production MADE IN ILVA. The director is known for her “artivist” approach, which addresses globally relevant social issues with the aim of generating a strong emotional impact on the audience.
This commitment is also reflected in its international research projects, such as Beyond Borders, which aims to create an international, multidisciplinary, and cosmopolitan artistic community capable of generating opportunities for networking, discussion, and collaboration. It has twice won the Ministry of Culture’s Boarding Pass Plus competition.
Instabili Vaganti’s presence in Egypt is linked precisely to the Beyond Borders project. With the support of the Italian Cultural Institute in Cairo, the company is leading a creative workshop with Egyptian artists to create the show Borders#Egypt, which will be performed on September 28th and 29th in Cairo, as part of the festival.
