One more step “Beyond Borders”. The 13th edition of PerformAzioni is underway
“Taking another step beyond the border, diving into the void, walking lightly and with open arms towards the unknown, accepting constant challenges and facing adversity, putting yourself on the line once again, even after 20 years of assiduous research, even when you think you have built something lasting, stable”. With this spirit the Bologna-based theater company Instabili Vaganti has imagined the 13th edition of PerformAzioni: an international festival of performing arts with a very strong vocation for internationality and the exploration of little-trodden terrain in the consolidated circuits of artistic research. This theme was also influenced by an uncertain future, because the company is leaving the space on the outskirts of Bologna, where they’ve been based for the last fifteen years. Divided in two distinct moments, from May 24th to 31st (in Bologna and Casalecchio), and then from August 30th to September 8th (in Valsamoggia), during the festival Anna Dora Dorno and Nicola Pianzola will bring together artists and travel companions from Italy and India, Venezuela, Mexico, Tunisia, USA and Senegal, for a kermesse that focuses entirely on the idea of overcoming geographical borders and not only, “creating together”.
Shows, performances, workshops, films and Q&As will unfold in various spaces throughout the city, to develop a focus on the international project Beyond Borders directed by Instabili Vaganti in collaboration with ATER Fondazione, Accademia Perduta / Romagna Teatri, La MaMa Umbria International and a vast network of foreign partners. The first part of the program opens on May 24th at the Oratorio San Filippo Neri in Bologna, where at 8:30 pm the performance Confini will be staged, the piece is the result of a research process around the theme of the “border” developed by Instabili Vaganti that involved young dancers, performers and international choreographers in the creation of a continuously evolving scenic structure. All these elements are made up of traditional and ritual performative elements from different cultures, updated through theater and contemporary dance.
On May 25th from 11 am in the same location, One more step Beyond Borders will be held, a theoretical-practical symposium, with the participation of partners, artists and international theater practitioners. The aim is to reflect on themes, suggestions and new scenarios generated by the project of the same name, winner of the MIC Boarding Pass Plus call. Other events at the Oratorio include a speech by Ángel Hernández, a Mexican playwright expert in theatrical research and founder of “Teatro para el fin del mundo”, a program of scenic actions conducted in ruined spaces, who will present his “Archivo Entreguerras”; a demonstration of work on the performative traditions of Nagaland and a practical demonstration of classical Indian dance Bharatanatyam.
The first part of the Festival ends on May 31st at 8:30 pm at the Teatro Comunale Laura Betti in Casalecchio di Reno, where Distance will be staged, 10 micro-performances by young international authors (Italy, Serbia, India, USA, Tunisia, Venezuela) with the artistic supervision of Instabili Vaganti: a series of micro performances, born from an investigation into the general theme of “borders” and the physical, geographical, social and interpersonal distance generated by them. The performance finds unity in a narrative line, a montage of actions, videos, images and sounds, all directed by Anna Dora Dorno.
