The Symposium One More Step Beyond Borders aims to be a moment of reflection on the international project Beyond Borders. A project created and directed by Instabili Vaganti in collaboration with ATER Fondazione, Accademia Perduta / Romagna Teatri, La MaMa Umbria international and 9 foreign partners from Chile, the United States, Malaysia, Senegal, India, supported by the MIC through the Boarding Pass Plus call. The Symposium, with its theoretical-practical approach, aims to explore the performative tools through which to overcome borders, be they conceptual or material, and experience those areas of contact and metamorphosis that lie beyond them. Crossing the limit as a courageous possibility, as a challenge, as a manifesto for an existence that is impossible to circumscribe to a limited geometry and identity, but also as a desire to encounter otherness and let oneself be transformed by it; or again, as a way of sabotaging classifications and hierarchies.
During the Symposium, some of the key steps of the Beyond Borders project carried out in Italy and abroad (India, USA, Senegal, Tunisia) will be reviewed. Showing some of the results achieved through video works, documentary films, web performances, practical workshops and master classes. Artists and researchers from different parts of the world (Italy, Mexico, Venezuela, Tunisia, India) will be hosted and will intervene around the theme of “Overcoming Borders” through the performing arts, declining it in different ways: from the traditions of Indian dances and tribal songs of Nagaland and southern India, an example of unity and tolerance in differences; to innovation and artistic experimentation that breaks the limits between disciplines; from dramatic creation as an element of political “activism” in war scenarios, such as Palestine; to the representation, through theatre, of situations of vulnerability in different parts of the world; from training as a tool for internationalizing the careers of young Italian artists, to sharing the creative processes of international artists, through workshops and work demonstrations open to public participation.
