The Italian Cultural Institute in Mumbai – Section of the New Delhi IIC – is part of the worldwide network of 81 Italian Cultural Institutes (IICs) established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for the purpose of promoting Italian culture and language abroad. Established in 2013, the Mumbai Institute is one of two existing in India (besides New Delhi).
The primary purpose of the Italian Cultural Institutes in the world is the promotion of Italian language and culture in the countries where they are based, through the organization of cultural events (concerts, exhibitions, conferences, etc.) and through the educational provision of courses in Italian language and culture.
In order to broaden their audiences and respond to the diverse interests of the local social fabric, the Institutes often carry out their cultural programs in collaboration with academic institutions and cultural bodies present in the area where they operate.
