Teater Albatross is a Swedish theatre company based in the countryside of southwestern Sweden, nestled in a striking natural landscape: a forest crossed by a river, with numerous lakes in the immediate vicinity. The theatre complex is large and includes two large auditoriums, over twenty guest rooms, and spaces dedicated to creation and artistic residencies.
Over the years, Teater Albatross has presented its productions in over twenty countries, with a particularly significant presence in Poland, Russia, Cameroon, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, developing a strongly international and intercultural artistic path.
The company’s productions often address historical, political, and social issues of great complexity and depth, including the Holocaust, marine and forest disasters, the Russian Revolution, and the history of the Congo. Albatross’s work is characterized by radical artistic research, in which the stage work is conceived as a total aesthetic and conceptual experience, rather than a virtuoso performance or traditional stagecraft.
The creation of its shows is the result of long and multi-layered processes: the company can work for several years on a single production, developing a practice grounded in research, experimentation, and the idea of theater as a profound and necessary art form.
