The Tunisian National Theatre is a public institution founded in 1983 with the aim of developing Tunisian theatre through training, research, production and distribution of new artistic proposals, as well as promoting the Tunisian theatrical experience on a national, Arab and international level. Also, the TNT amis to build up a documentation fund.
The Tunisian National Theatre has two venues: the ‘Palais du Théâtre’ in the Halfaouine district, in the Medina of Tunis, and ‘Le Quatrième Art’, in Avenue de Paris, in the centre of Tunis.
The Theatre Palace, administrative headquarters of the Tunisian National Theatre, resides in the former palace of Mustapha Khaznadar, Minister of Finance and Grand Vizier of the Bey in the 19th century. The Palais du Théâtre has several rehearsal rooms, a theatre and performing arts library, as well as a tailoring workshop, a carpentry workshop and a workshop for the creation of costumes, sets and props. It is a place dedicated to creation, where the performances of the Tunisian National Theatre are produced, as well as to training and research on theatre development.
The TNT also founded the École de l’Acteur, a school offering in-depth professional training for would-be actors.
