Does theater still make sense today
Anna Dora Dorno
Lockdown memory is a performance that falls squarely into the category of reality theater, capable of bringing new multimedia languages into dialogue with those of the stage, capable of narrating the complexity of an innovative project such as Beyond Borders, in which theater, video art and documentary film are interwoven through a long-distance collaboration with artists from around the world. Textual notes, visual notes, physical and musical scores, zoomed-in conversations and scenes from the daily lives of the artists involved are the unfolding dramaturgical fragments that bounce off the walls of an aseptic room in search of a single glimmer, that virtual window open to a world which has had to mark its boundaries, due to the measures imposed by the containment of the pandemic.
From their desks, the on-stage actors also take care of the video direction, reliving the different moments and situations created during the Lockdown, between Hyper connection and isolation, giving voice to the delicate social situation in the countries of the artists involved: from the protests of the Black lives matter movement in the United States to the social uprising in Chile, from the mass exodus from the Indian megacities to the return to normalcy, after the tragedy, in the city of Wuhan.
