This stage of work took place in Chile and was divided into two phases: one dedicated to artistic work, the other to the meeting between programmers and practitioners.
The first phase of research, exchange, and co-creation took place June 16-19, 2022 in Valparaiso, at the Universidad de Playa Ancha, and focused on investigating the relationship between video and live action and the use of media in performance practice. The Italian and Chilean artists worked together in the spaces of the UPLA Hall, opening their research, developed over the previous months in video and at a distance, to young students from the university’s theater faculty as well. The theme of the border was declined in its meaning of “confinement” and theatrical and performative action was explored as a revolutionary act capable of intervening on reality.

At the end of this practical working session, director Anna Dora Dorno, performer Claudio Santana Borquez, professor of theater Giulio Ferretto, and director of theater faculty and video maker, Andrés Hernández Hidalgo, presented and shared with participants the research carried out remotely for the creation of the web series VIDEODANTE # Chile, a video trilogy created on the occasion of the celebration of the 700th anniversary of the death of the Supreme Poet with the collaboration and support of the Italian Institute of Culture in Santiago, Chile and the Emilia – Romagna Region – Consulta degli emiliano romagnoli nel mondo.

A second phase of the development of this stage took place in Iquique, in northern Chile, and included the participation of the Italian partners in the international meeting between operators, circuits and festivals, organized as part of the FINTDAZ Festival by the Chilean company ANTIFAZ of Iquique, a project partner. The meeting, which had already included an online discussion phase in October 2021, attended by Paolo Brancalion of Arboreto Teatro Dimora and Anna Dora Dorno of Instabili Vaganti, took place in the Museo Regional de Iquique from June 20-21, 2022. During the meeting’s program, director Anna Dora Dorno and young theater and circus programmer Alex Turano had the opportunity to engage with several programmers from major Latin American festivals and theaters including: La Pintana and Matucana 100 in Santiago de Chile, Il Parque cultural de Valparaiso, the FINTEI Festival in the Dominican Republic, and the FAMFEST Festival in Chile. In addition, it was possible to meet with the main Chilean institutions that fund cultural programs including Pro Chile, with a view to starting a path toward a memorandum of understanding for the mobility of Italian and Chilean artists. Anna Dora Dorno and Alex Turano also attended the performances of the Chilean companies invited to the festival with whom they also participated in a speed dating aimed at networking and implementing skills in international planning and programming.
